Whether you're a research university diversifying beyond NIH and NSF or a company navigating fast-moving innovation cycles, most organizations are built to react to what's already happened. We built the KUMENYA Method to change that: a structured process that gives you the capability to see patterns 12 to 24 months out, with particular depth in Department of Defense funding strategy. We don't hand you a report and leave. We build the capability inside your organization, alongside your team, until it's yours to run.
We map your current research or innovation portfolio against emerging federal and market priorities, identifying where concentration creates risk and where diversification creates leverage, including Department of Defense funding streams most organizations overlook. This isn't a static report. It's the baseline the rest of the method builds from.
Award notices and product launches tell you what already happened. We train your people, not just advise them, to sense patterns 12 to 24 months out, working directly alongside your team until the capability lives inside your organization.
Federal research and defense funding run on different logic than commercial markets or NIH/NSF. We don't stop at strategy. We execute alongside your team through the funding cycle itself, applying direct federal portfolio leadership experience to real pursuits, not hypothetical ones.
Universities have faculty who decide. Businesses have technical teams who execute. Either way, a strategy dies the moment the consultants leave. We stay in the room. We train the research development professionals or innovation leads at that operational center, hand them the frameworks directly, and keep working alongside them until they're running the method without us. Ownership transfers to you. That's the point.

Kumenya carries two meanings across the Bantu language family. In Kinyarwanda and Kirundi, it means to know. In Kikuyu and Swahili, the same root means to peel. In Bantu linguistic tradition, these aren't two ideas, they're one: you cannot know what stays concealed. Peeling is how you come to know. That's the work: stripping away what obscures the funding and innovation landscape, so what's actually there becomes visible.
